The Castle ParkYOUR GREEN OASIS OF PEACE

Surrounded by our eight-hectare castle park, you will find an oasis full of tranquility and untouched nature. Where once Tsar Peter the Great strolled, today shady spots under the canopy of centuries-old trees, idyllic ponds, and wide, winding paths invite you to take a deep breath.

From Schloss Schwöbber to Schlosshotel Münchhausen

How did Schlosshotel Münchhausen actually get its name? It was Hilmar von Münchhausen who laid the foundation for the imposing Weser Renaissance building at this very spot. Under the historic name "Schloss Schwöbber" the house experienced glorious centuries, hosted European nobility, and was the cultural center of the region. After turbulent times and an elaborate, faithful restoration, we have carefully led this historical heritage into the modern era. Today, the house proudly bears the name of its founder as "Schlosshotel Münchhausen."

Embark on a journey of discovery and experience the historical milestones that still shape the unique atmosphere of our house today:

  • Around 1570: Hilmar von Münchhausen begins the construction of the estate, the moats, and the garden.
  • 1668: Otto and his brother Burchard von Münchhausen take over the castle.
  • 1716: High visit: Tsar Peter the Great is interested in the largest plant collection in Europe at the time, especially the castle's own orangery with its exotic pineapple plantations.
